Chicken + Vision = Raising Cane’s Ohio
In 2000, Tim McCarthy was a junior in college and needed to pay for the last two years of school. Having run out of money from his loans and scholarships, he started looking for a way to continue his education.
The solution: partnering with his father to start a marketing consulting company called KT McCarthy, LTD. The two McCarthys presented proposals to a few potential clients and landed their first consulting job with an eight-location chicken restaurant chain out of Baton Rouge, LA.
This was Tim’s first interaction with Raising Cane’s. He fell in love with the brand and met Todd Graves, the company’s founder. After consulting on the Raising Cane’s franchise’s marketing plan, Tim paid for his final years of school and decided he wanted to be a part of the Raising Cane’s family.
After working his way from crewmember to manager, Tim suspected that Raising Cane’s would be a hit back in Ohio. Upon his return to the Buckeye State, he opened up the first franchise restaurant across from The Ohio State University campus in October 2004. Slowly but surely, finger by finger, the students began to fall in love with Raising Cane’s.
After opening the first store, Tim teamed with friend, mentor and restaurant industry veteran Roy Getz to form Raising Cane’s Ohio in September 2005. In just under a year, the pair opened the Olentangy River Road and Gahanna Raising Cane’s stores and they haven’t stopped since.
